News reports today indicate that the actor Jon Polito has died, and multiple myeloma is being given as the cause of death. It's said he died at a hospital in Duarte, California, which is where City of Hope Cancer Center is located.

There is not much about multiple myeloma, which is mentioned only once, right at the beginning of the article:

"Jon Polito, a character actor best known for his roles as menacing, gravelly-voiced gangsters, cops and shady businessmen in movies directed by the Coen brothers and in the first two seasons of the television crime drama “Homicide: Life on the Street,” died Sept. 1 at a hospital in Duarte, Calif. He was 65.

His death was announced by his manager, Maryellen Mulcahy. The cause was multiple myeloma."

Sadly, when I hear of a celebrity or anyone dying of "cancer", I search to learn what type, wondering if it is multiple myeloma. My heart sank when I saw Jon Polito had multiple myeloma. His 2010 diagnosis also made my heart sink, as he lived for 6 years. He was in his late 50's when diagnosed and lived the average range of 6 years. I wondered what was his journey like?
