infection prevention meds after asct

by tpt on Fri Oct 04, 2013 8:47 pm

Hello,

Post ASCT, Dad's infection prevention meds are as follows:

Acyclovir (Zoral) 1,600mg daily
Sulphamethoxazole BP 1,600mg and Trimethoprim BP (Bactrim) 320mg on weekends
Omeprazole (Omezole) 40mg daily

Special for Dad's hepatitis B, entecavir (Baraclude) 0.5mg daily

They are really upsetting his stomach, and it looks like the weekend Bactrim is not ss effective as it was. I was wondering if you all take this much as well. What do you take to cure upset stomach? Is it Domperidone? How many mg? Thanks.

I didn't take any antibiotic, other than finishing one given for C-diff, only thing added was the acyclovir for shingles and that was at diagnosis. I would suspect the antibiotic and ask the doctor if he couldn't take something different.

The acyclovir upsets my stomach sometimes. I always take it after a meal. The omeprazole is already decreasing the stomach acid. I will take 1-2 Tums when my stomach is acting up, and they help. Tums also supplies some calcium for my bones.
