Hi,
I’m in Southport, England and was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in November 2014, first treatment was thalidomide, which I coped well with, then a stem cell transplant, which gave me 8-9 months remission, Velcade next, that gave me 5-6 months, so as you can see I don’t seem to last long in these remissions.
I am quite a fit 70 rear old. I am now on 25 mg Revlimid, 2 mg x 20 dexamethasone x 4 days plus the various maintenance drugs. Everyday I inject a 40 mg of Clexane (Lovenox; blood thinner), and then 4 days of 20 x2 mg dexamethasone plus one 25 mg of Revlimid and then 4 days off. This carries on for a month, the last week of that month being free of treatment drugs that is one cycle an I’m on 3rd. I then see the consultant and have my Zometa.
My paraprotein level has come down from 10 g/l (1.0 g/dL) in January / February. Yesterday it was 3.1 g/l (0.31 g/dL), so something is working!
Not sure if that brief, potted history helps, but my pain now has started again. It reminds me of those days nearly 4 years ago when it was insufferable. It’s in my coccyx region. It hurts sitting, walking, etc. In fact virtually everywhere is affected.
I have read recently about Revlimid and back pain, and either I’m completely stupid or just didn’t connect Revlimid with this much pain, only just reading some of the posts here has this occurred to me, perhaps the age of 70 is catching up with me and I do feel silly not putting the two things together, it’s so obvious!
I have a lot of trouble with straining (toilet) to the point it frightens me. I take 1-2 sachets of Laxido (polyethylene glycol) in the evening, and this has always helped with any constipation.
At the moment I am feeling sorry for myself, as well as the lower spine / back pain I’ve contracted a chest infection, my long suffering wife is taking me to the clinic this afternoon, They can sort me out, hopefully.
Thanks for your patience. A silly Englishman.
