I was diagnosed with smoldering Myeloma in July 2009 and since then have had a protein level that has increased from 32g/l to 44g/l. Interestingly my figures have been stable or only shown slight increases, APART from when I have been ill when I have seen much bigger increases (8g/l and 4g/l). The second time, I strongly believe that it was only because I had been takin curcumin for 5 weeks that I saw a smaller increase.
Does anyone know if this mindset has any scientific basis as my consultant looked surprised when I asked/suggested that illness and increased onset of Myeloma could be linked? Surely if your body is fighting illness, it has less ability to fight the cancer.
Many thanks

Re: Illness causing increased figures
Dr. Paul Richardson from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute said:
"Infection and other inflammatory conditions can increase M spikes transiently. These usually settle back down once the infection or acute inflammatory stimulus resolves.
It is also important to remember that when multiple myeloma progresses, it worsens immune supression and so infection can be part of progressive disease."
