Quick question, hope someone can help!
Does anyone else have MGUS but with a different immunoglobulin raised than the MGUS immunoglobulin?
I have a small IgG lambda paraprotein (incidental finding) with no immunoparesis. My IgG and IgM are within the normal range, but my polyclonal IgA is slightly raised (it is 3.2 and I was told that the top of the normal range was 2.8 - not sure which units these are, but the test was carried out in the UK).
My hematologist said that he sees this pattern quite a bit with MGUS, but it seems strange to me!
I think the SPEP was originally carried out due to the raised IgA, yet they found IgG MGUS. Strange?!

Re: IgG MGUS with no immunoparesis but raised polyclonal IgA
Depending on the lab you use, the normal range for serum IgA is around 0.76 - 3.9 g/L (my lab uses 70-400 mg/dL as the reference range, which is 0.7 to 4.0 g/L). I don't think the upper limit number of 2.8 g/L is correct. Therefore I believe your IgA level of 3.2 g/L is normal.

Thanks so much for your reply!
Apologies, I forgot to mention that I'm 31 years old, so I guess they must have been using age-related reference ranges (once you clarified the units I was able to do a bit more research on why I was told it was slightly out of range). According to this website the top of the range for my age is 2.8 g/L and after age 45 it is 4.0 g/L.
Either way, given the difference between the reference ranges for age, it doesn't seem like this is of much significance. Thanks again for your help!
