IgG immunoparesis

by Kay on Mon Nov 18, 2013 8:54 pm

I am IgG MGUS (10 years) with IgG -589 mg/dL; IgA - 73; IgM – 88; k/L ratio 0.09 and M Spike of 0.02 g/dL

My IgG has always been below normal range and these readings are the about highest I’ve had. I also have low lymphocytes caused by interferon beta injections.

I have had an ongoing sinus/upper respiratory infection for 15 months with numerous antibiotics, cultures, saline irrigation with steroids and 2 sinus surgeries.

This is getting tiresome.

My hematologist feels that as long as the antibiotics keep the infection more or less in check that he wouldn’t recommend IVIG. I’m thinking about seeing an immunologist to get a different perspective on the infection issue.

Any other suggestions?

I agree that IVIG has to be considered. May only need a few months of treatment to get you over this illness. Although I do tend to try and maximize antibiotics as well.

Thanks, Dr.Valent,
I've been on Z Pak, Augmentin and finally had a culture and was prescribed Cipro - several doses, Levofloxicin (w/ some achilles tendonitis), and also Gentamycin in the saline irrigation for about 8 months along with the steroid.

I just finished another round of Cipro 13 days ago and the infection is flaring up again. I'll check w/ my ENT and see if I should add the Gentamycin back into the saline/steroid irrigation solution.

Thanks, again, Kay
