My husband's fight against IgA multiple myeloma

by smerrifield13 on Mon Jun 06, 2016 4:28 pm

Hello,

My name is Samantha and my husband is 47 years of age and at the ending stage of his multiple myeloma.

David was diagnosed last year, July 24th 2015, and he is now weeks away from losing his life. IgA multiple myeloma is extremely aggressive and his cancer is no longer reacting to his treatments. The disease has caused his kidneys to fail – they are only functioning at 8%. He has jaundice and hypoglycemia. Calcium is pouring into his body and his kidneys are not working enough to flush it. He forgets things, twitches, and can't keep anything in his hands.

I just want to let everyone know that it can be a very aggressive disease and it is taking my husband at a very young age of 47 and he hasn't even been 12 months with it.

Samantha:

I am so sorry to hear things are not going well. My husband was diagnosed at 47 last year and has IgA kappa multiple myeloma, so I identify with you.

I wish I had something to offer you. I did want you to know I am thinking about you and your husband.

Samantha,

Welcome to the forum. I really can't imagine what you are feeling right now.

I'm sure most folks on this forum are wondering what treatments have been attempted thus far on your husband, if you are working with a multiple myeloma specialist, where he is located and if he has participated in any clinical trials?

Samantha,

I just wanted to say that my thoughts, as well as the thoughts and hopes of our fellow myeloma patients, are with you. We will continue to hope that there will be a response to treatment that will turn things around for your husband.

I do hope that every effort is being made to arrest the myeloma, and that he has access to the best medical care that can be obtained, including trials, which can sometimes be miraculous.

Surround yourself with people who care about you and your family.

Dear Samantha,

This is a truly sad state of affairs. Your husband is very young to be at this stage of multiple myeloma. I hope and pray that there will be something else that could be attempted to turn it around. I'm thinking about you both at this time.

Dear Samantha,

Our time is in God's hands, but do you feel for certain that there is nothing more that can be done?

Would you husband be able to travel to one of the leading centers for a second opinion? If you share your location, I'm sure there are some members who would make good recommendations.

If indeed this is your husband's time, I join with the others here in wishing you both peace and a release from pain. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Thank you for letting us be with you on this journey.
