IgA kappa paraprotein detected - what can it be?

by aniry on Thu Jan 29, 2015 7:06 am

Hi everyone!

My name is Irina, I'm from Latvia, sorry my English. I'm 22 years old.

Recently IgA kappa paraprotein was detected in my blood test in concentration 1,2 % = 1.0 g/l.
(Test by immunofixation method).

I've read a lot in the Internet, so I know that this concentration is low, but I have some other suspicious symptoms.

A month ago I got deep vein thrombosis in the iliofemoral segment. After that, doctors started to search for possible reasons. The only known reason which provoked thrombosis was 2 month of using oral contraception (Yarina / Yasmin).

Also, last few years, time by time I'm having long-lasting sub-fever 37.0-37.4 C (98.6 - 99.3 F). Now after the thrombosis I also had this fever without any other reasons, only yesterday I had first time normal temperature. When the temperature increases, I feel weakness, and also feel like burning inside, hot.

But even when my temperature is ok (or when I just give up measuring), I often feel weakness, all the time tired even after rest. But the weight is normal, appetite is fine.

Also last few years I'm noticing hair loss, not terrible, but still noticeable. My hair is everywhere at home, when brushing it, always quite a bunch remains on the brush, and if I take a bath - a lot of hair is in the water as well. I still have enough hair on my head, but much less volume than before.

Now, after reading about myeloma, I started to analyse that I have had some back pain, rib pain from time to time, and even now listening to myself I feel sometimes kinda slight pain in my hands and legs. Also these days I have neck pain. Maybe I'm just giving too much attention to this now.

Sorry, I planned to write much shorter.

So the last detail is that my other blood tests were normal or just slightly out of range. I have an appointment with a hematologist only at the beginning of March, before that I'll have to guess and worry.

That's why I ask for your opinion: is it possible to have myeloma with such a low concentration of paraprotein? Did anybody have this at my age?

Can myeloma be the reason for the thrombosis? If it's not myeloma, can it be another kind of blood cancer ?

Or is there no reason to worry so much?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I have had infections quite often, and even once in the summer I had Epstein-Barr virus and have been in hospital then.

Last year I decided to get vaccinations, so I got the anti-flu and Pneumo23 vaccines, which helped me. Now I'm getting sick much less often. This autumn was my first cold-free autumn ever, I think, but now I'm also going out to public places less often. I think this also decreases the risk of viruses.

Hi,

I had deep vein embolisms in my arm last year. I also wondered if it's connected to my MGUS (IgA lambda), but the doctors never answer my questions.

Good luck in getting some answers.
