I was diagnosed in September of 2009 with IgA Kappa myeloma. At that time, my IgA level was about 3800. I had an auto SCT December, 2010. Four months after the transplant, my serum immunofixatin showed no IgA monoclonal band and has remained so to date. However, two recent serum immunofixations have shown "Faint IgG Lamda monoclonal protein band against a dense polyclonal background." Is it possible to have two different types of Myeloma? My IgG currently measures 250, IgA is 17 and IgM is <5. All well below normal range. The same is true for my Kappa and Lambda FLC's. BMB done in July was "negative for Myeloma cells." FISH test was normal. Is this IgG band something to be concerned about?
Thanks,
Jodi

Re: IgA Kappa & IgG Lambda?
Dear Jodi,
The IgG lambda is not concerning. I suspect that the IgG lambda band is related to a phenomenon of oligoclonal banding that occurs in patients who have had a great response to treatment. I highly doubt that this represents another type of myeloma.
Congratulations on the wonderful response!
