Ideas to raise platelet count

My husband is on his second cycle of Velcade SubQ/Dex. He ends up not being able to do about every other injection because his platelets are too low. Anyone have any tricks to keeping the platelets in the normal range.

How low is too low? Sometimes Velcade is held for low platelets, even though the platelet count is not that bad.

Today it was 22. WBC and ANC were also low. He hasn't been able to have his last two treatments. It is discouraging.
