Hyperbaric oxygen after autologous stem cell transplant

by DebbieJ54 on Wed Feb 17, 2016 10:25 am

Has anyone heard anything about the use of hyperbaric oxygen treatment to expedite the recovery of neutrophil counts after an autologous stem cell transplant?

I saw a clinical trial was underway last year, but wondered if anyone knew or has experience with this?

Debbie,

The same principal investigator for the trial you mentioned

"Pilot Study Exploring the Use of Hyperbaric Oxygen in Autologous Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplantation (Auto-HBO)" (trial information at clinicaltrials.gov)

presented a paper at ASH 2014 on this subject. but with regard to umbilical cord blood transplantation:

OS Aljitawi et al, "Pilot Clinical Study Incorporating Hyperbaric Oxygen into Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation", ASH 2014 annual meeting abstract 3889 (abstract)

The clinical trial, by the way, is now closed to new participants.
