Hi, everyone!
My husband was diagnosed in February of 2012. He did Velcade, dex and had a stem cell transplant in July of 2012. It took him several months to rebound from all of that, but he began to feel really good in March of 2013.
Fast forward to November of 2015 and he didn't feel so great. He was hospitalized and in January of 2016 he started chemo again, Kyprolis. He did 8 treatments but felt really bad again, so off to the doctor we went. He was again back in hospital only to find out 8 weeks of chemo was not even touching the cancer. The cancer had fractured his shoulder, sternum, and 2 vertabrae in his neck. For the pain, we did radiation, and it did work very well for the pain, however it REALLY took him down for the count.
He is currently back in hospital because he could not keep anything in his stomach and he was sleeping 22 hours a day. Doctors trying to get him under control and build his strength as they are looking to start chemo again (Darzalex) in the coming month.
I just want to say to everyone that this cancer has invaded I APPLAUD YOU!, and to those who are the caregiver, I APPLAUD YOU! It is very hard for me to try to work everyday and take care of hubby. We make it through the days with a positive attitude and faith in his doctors. I know this is only a speed bump and things will get better.
I wish all of you the strength and love to overcome what has been handed to you.

Re: Husband has multiple myeloma since 2012
Londa-
I'm sorry to hear all that your husband and you have been going through recently. I hope that he starts treatment soon and responds to it.
I truly believe that there should be a national holiday for all caregivers. You are the unsung heroes standing by to give support, to fill in the gaps, to make sure that we get where we need to go when we need to get there, etc, etc, etc, etc. I think that the hardest thing for caregivers is to have to watch as those of us with myeloma, or any other serious condition, have problems and you can't do anything to make it better. I am thankful every day for the caregivers in this world. I know that I would have had a really difficult time during my crises if my caregiver hadn't been there for me.
All the best to both you and your husband,
Nancy in Phila

Re: Husband has multiple myeloma since 2012
Thanks, Nancy. I am firm in my belief that we will get over this hump. Today is a little better, but he will be going into rehab to build his strength before coming home. That will be a Godsend to me as I was looking at in-home care, and at 16 bucks an hour, I might as well not work. I wish I was able to retire, but I am not. Oh, I suppose I could, but I would not be able to survive the medical bills, house payments, etc.
I pray each night for my husband and for all of the people and caregivers associated with this form of cancer. Again, attitude is half the battle, and I REFUSE to be anything but positive. One way or the other we will get through this.
I am anxious to talk at length with his doctor to find out more about the chemo and I have been researching it on this site. It looks very promising and I am grateful for the strides being made for this cancer.
Bless all of you and stay positive, it could make a difference!

Re: Husband has multiple myeloma since 2012
I share your journey. I found this site to be very helpful, especially to touch base with people who can understand what the journey is like. Some days are good, but each day I wonder what will be next. It is so hard to sit on the sidelines.
Best wishes
