How long does melphalan stay in your body after a stem cell transplant?

My concern is because my husband is 9 months after transplant. He started Revlimid 0.5
as a maintenance treatment.

Hi Mary Ann,

Melphalan (Alkeran) does not stay in the body very long. After an injection of melphalan, about half of it has left the bloodstream in about an hour. It keeps dropping at about that rate every hour thereafter.

So, after just a day, essentially all -- if not all -- of it should be out of the body.

This is based on information in the drug's official prescribing information, which can be viewed at the FDA's website here:

http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2011/020207s016lbl.pdf

The "half-life" (10-75 minutes) information is on page 11 under "pharmacokinetics."
