How long to get bone marrow biopsy results?

by Lynsdoc on Wed Nov 25, 2015 5:54 am

Hi all

My mum had a bone marrow biopsy 8 days ago. The doctor said she will have to wait roughly 2 weeks for the results. Has anyone heard back any sooner than this?

I appreciate any help,

Lynsie

The come in a couple of stages. I believe it is four separate reports. The first two usually take a couple of days (tests on the aspirate and inspection of the marrow sample). The cytogenetics are sent out to specialty labs and can take up to two weeks.

It usually takes 2 weeks. Don't worry if the percentage comes back high. My husbands came back at 85% in 2013 and he is in remission and doing great. God Bless

When my first bone marrow biopsy was done on Aug. 5, 2015, my percentage was 80-90.
I had another one done in mid-October, and they were down to 30%. This was after 3 cycles of Revlimid (14 on, 7 off), weekly Velcade, and dexamethasone.
