My husband had his stem cell transplant in September last year. We started with an m-spike of 1.3 g/dL and at day 100 (January), it was still 1.3. We were very disappointed.
Our doctor has taken a very cautious "wait and watch" approach with no maintenance or anything. Since then, my husband's numbers (m-spike, free light chains, and IgG) all continued to improve slightly (m-spike is 1.0, and IgG is in the normal range - barely, but it's there).
We just had another check last week, and while the myeloma is holding steady, our doctor does not want us to start any maintenance or anything. It makes us a little nervous, but we are loving not being on any therapies right now. I think our doctor would like to make sure that the drugs will be effective if and when needed. I think he's also very interested in some of the new therapies under development. He is treating this as an MGUS for now. We continue to go back for testing every 2 months.
This sounds very different than just about everyone else on this thread and all of the people we know with myeloma.
Is there anyone else out there who did not receive any maintenance or consolidation after SCT?
Thanks!
Sandy
