How long after ASCT for definitive results?

by Vin on Tue Jan 10, 2012 9:47 pm

Hello everyone. I would like to know if any of you are aware of how long it takes to get the final results after a asct. My Dad's doc gave him results three weeks after his melphalan that he received pre transplant. I've read and heard that it takes 90-100 days. Any info will be extremely appreciated.

Dear Vin,

Timing of optimal responses to high-dose melphalan vary quite a bit from patient to patient, but may not be seen until 3 months after treatment -- you are absolutely right. If fact, we have seen further decrement in disease from month 3 to 6 in some instances. As such, it will be important to reassess the situation in a couple of months. Good luck and let us know how things go!

Thank you so much Dr. Voorhees. My father is a physician in Gainesville, FL at UF. There have been three doctors diagnosed with multiple myeloma in the past nine months. Ironically, he is pretty bad playing the role of patient. When I told him of your response, he noted it and plans to ask his doctor about it it today. Thanks again Dr. Voorhees.
