Hello All,
I just received my latest blood report to monitor ongoing myeloma treatment. Below are the details of the report:
Kappa light chain, free - 5.9
Lambda light chain, free - 1131.8 H
Kappa/lambda light chain ratio - 0.01 L
What do these results mean?
I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma back I need 2014.
Regards,
Usha

Re: High lambda level, low kappa-lambda ratio: meaning?
Hello Usha,
Guess it should be lambda / kappa ratio = 191.8
You didn’t mention the type of myeloma you have. Is it lambda light chain? Also, what is your M-spike?
Are you currently on a treatment regimen of any sort?

Re: High lambda level, low kappa-lambda ratio: meaning?
The involved free light chain in your case is the lambda chain. The kappa-lambda ratio is calculated by simply dividing the kappa lab result by the lambda lab result, thus the 0.01 level is actually 0.0052, which rounds to 0.01.
Not sure where you numbers were before, but 1131.8 is very high if it was measured in mg/L. The norm is 5.7 to 16.3 mg/L. What units (mg/L or mg/dL) were used for the kappa and lambda results?
Your test results indicates monoclonal gammopathy.
Are you in current treatment?
