Questions and discussion about monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (i.e., diagnosis, risk of progression, living with the disease, etc.)

Re: High kappa lambda ratio, history of Lyme

Hi dmaotn79,

Have you had a serum immunofixation test since your initial post in this thread? In our initial post, you wrote "My IFE and PE serum are normal with no M-spike". So I'm curious if there is any new evidence that your free light chain results are due to a monoclonal gammopathy rather than other factors.

Cheryl posted recently about a study showing that "borderline" free light chain ratios can be due to inflammations or infections.

Also, when discussing light chains, it's important to make sure you're discussing FREE light chains, and results of SERUM, not URINE, light chain testing. There are both serum and urine tests that report TOTAL, not FREE, light chain results. Those are not nearly as useful as FREE light chain results.
