Hello

Hello
I would like to introduce myself. I have been diagnosed with smoldering myeloma now since July last year (1 day before my birthday). I have progressed from being diagnosed with MGUS some time ago. I live in Perth in Western Australia. I am relatively well at the moment, apart from extreme fatigue and very low iron stores, therefore extreme fatigue. I look forward to hearing your advice and getting to know you.
Regards
Gayle

Hi Puffofwind,

I saw on your earlier thread that:

"I, too , have been diagnosed with smoldering myeloma ten months ago, which has progressed from MGUS diagnosed approx. 6 years ago. I live in Perth in Western Australia and am currently on a 'watch and wait', under the care of my haematologist. My GP has admitted to knowing very little/nothing about myeloma. My doctor advises the progression time to full blown myeloma is between 1-5 years but I feel I am floundering around just waiting for the axe to fall. Does anyone have any advice as to how to cope with the waiting?"

I am smoldering as well.

Most folks on this forum, including myself, would urge you to find a myeloma specialist. This is the single most important thing you can do. There are a few others like Libby that live in Australia and may be able to help you with this.

Having said that, it is also not a given you will progress to multiple myeloma, so you may very well smolder the rest of your life.

I've found that taking the time to really research this disease and to understand all of my options was the best path for me in dealing with this phase of the disease. My goal is to live a long and active life, should I progress. I now find myself at relative peace having done a lot of homework on this disease, which is in sharp contrast to how I felt last fall when I was first diagnosed. The Beacon is a great place to start on that journey of knowledge.
