Hello to all.
My wife was diagnosed with multiple myeloma just this past Friday, December 4, 2015.
I'm flying blind and have been given little to no information. So I am going to pose some questions. When I locate the correct location.

Re: Hello from West Virginia
Hello Jim,
Welcome, unfortunately, to the forum;
I've been through your state, from north to south, many time in my life; it's a beautiful state.
Where is your wife going to be treated, West Virginia University (WVU)?
I understand there are a lot good myeloma specialists in your neighbour to the north – Pennsylvania.

Little Monkey,
Thank you for the welcome.
David Lee Cancer Center in Charleston, West Virginia for now. They are an extension of WVU, I believe, though they are a Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) facility.

Re: Hello from West Virginia
Hello Jeff,
It is of course unfortunate that you are here, but except for local patient / relative groups (if they are available) and the good advice by your doctors and health care professionals, this is one of the best places to seek information and ask questions.
Do you know if you are being sent to a myeloma specialist?
Have they arranged for a consultation where you and your wife will be informed about myeloma. And have they given you a good picture of your situation and that myeloma is treatable, etc., etc?
Best regards,
Lev

Lev,
Thank you for your post.

Re: Hello from West Virginia
Hi Jeff,
I hope that your consultation this morning is successful, and that your wife and you are getting a better picture.
I do absolutely not want to give advice, and there are of course cases where treatment for myeloma need to start as fast as possible. But it may take a little of the stress off you and your family to know that it is not always necessary to start treatment at once. This is of course something your myeloma specialist will know more about.
One thing though, the treatment for myeloma is progressing so fast and new/novel medicine are introduced with short intervals. So quality of life, life expectancy and all that matters are changing to the better very fast. Therefore: Do not search to much on the internet
but insist on being seen by a myeloma specialist who know about the latest change in standard treatments and who are able to analyze the test results from blood, urine, scans and bone marrow biopsies and who can choose the right treatment from the more comprehensive picture this will give you.
When you have some results from your blood tests, urine and BMB then people who are more knowledgeable than me may be able to give you better input.
Best regards
Lev
