Heart problems after treatment - looking for more info

by cindyboekeloo on Tue Feb 11, 2014 6:46 pm

So, last week we went to Mayo Clinic for testing prior to transplant. My husband has had serious cardiac issues in the past so they also checked his heart.

The good news is his cancer is in remission! That was especially good because treatment was stopped just beyond the 4 cycle mark. And his treatment was only Velcade and Cytoxan [cyclophosphamide], since his mental status was bad at diagnosis and they didn't want to include the Dex. So good news there, and interesting since it wasn't a "conventional" treatment.

The bad news is his heart function. He has a left ejection fraction of only 29%. Which is very poor. We will be following up on the heart issues on our return to Mayo at the beginning of March. Along with a GI consult since he ended up in the ER our first night there with a bolus of meat stuck in his esophogus, for the second time.

Anyway, I've done some minor digging around for any connection to the EF and the Velcade, as the doctor mentioned that as a possibility. Just wondering if anyone had any links to a little info about this.

EF was at 48% in July after the last heart attack and stent placement.
