Hi - Does anyone have experience with using a health insurance broker to help them find affordable health insurance? I researched brokers and there are so many.
We've always had good health insurance through our employers. A few years ago, my husband took early retirement and we kept our insurance. It was reasonable; $400/month, low deductible, and low copays. Following the Affordable Care Act (ACA), our insurance starting going up each year and this week we learned our new monthly premium for 2015 is $1000/month, $6,000 plus deductible, and % shared copays. No copays apply until the deductible is met.
I spoke with my doctor's office and they suggested the 'consolidate plan' in order to save money. The plan is to drop the oncologist and endocrinologist twice/year visits - lab work and have a PCP monitor MGUS and thyroid levels once a year. By doing this, I'm only paying only one large out-of-pocket visit. She said there are also clinical trials that may offer free MGUS monitoring, but based on my profile doesn't feel I'd meet the criteria.
I checked out Health Net and the new rates for 2015 open November 15, 2014. Their 2014 rates are similar to what our current rates are. We pay so much for insurance but are afraid to use it since the costs are prohibitive. Hoping a broker can help locate affordable health care we can actually use. Unfortunately we are 6-7 years away from Medicare.
