My doctor has said they would never do a second SCT after the one I'm getting at age 68.
When pressed for reasons and factors he is basing this on, it comes down to chronological age alone.
Comments? Does anyone know of anyone who has had two SCTs after age 65 and where they had them?

Re: Has anyone had two SCTs after age 65?
My neighbor was 80 when he had one. He was in great shape and did well. He did not have myeloma, but a rare nasty lymphoma. Nonetheless, he came through as well as anyone, but had a lot of tests to look at his condition first. The disease was aggressive and rare, so that popped back up in less than a year and got him. But it was not myeloma and he did well.

Re: Has anyone had two SCTs after age 65?
This answer may be premature, given that my mom is about to undergo her first ASCT next week, but her myeloma specialist insisted on harvesting 20 million stem cells so that she would have enough for four transplants and she is 62 years old. Our specialist has some ties to UAMS so tandem is a possibility for her, but that would still leave enough for two more. And, to echo what the other poster wrote, we have a family friend who just underwent an ASCT for myeloma at the age of 80.
