We thought things were going pretty well. The doctors said dad was going into remission. Last week he had 7 teeth pulled because we were told before he gets the SCT he has to be otherwise totally healthy. Teeth were bad so out they go. Anyway 3 days ago he was still spitting out blood clots. Totally confused and cussing us all out. Saying things that make no sense. Took us 2 days to get him to the hospital. My sister had to lie to him and say we were going to a doctor appointment. He got 4 units of blood last night. Then 2 more units this afternoon. He's lost alot of weight, is incontinent, and still confused. My sister and I had to get POA over him. He has 1 more round of chemo this month and is suppossed to get the SCT next month. He's had 8 blood transfusions since November and we can't keep him out of the hospital. He's at the point he just wants to give up.
We don't know what to do. How can he be going into remission if he is still having these problems?

Re: Hard to stay optimistic
It is horrible in the front end of treatment for many of us. They pulled a couple of teeth for me as well. The SCT work-up and transplant will be tough too. It does end.
My myeloma was still stage 1 but rapidly advancing in M spike tests. It was my daughters who carried me, in a different way. The ASCT worked and the return to a much better health standard was quick. I'm glad I stayed the course (NOW)!
