hard lymph node in neck

by guest on Thu May 02, 2013 11:26 am

I am a three year multiple myeloma survivor, in CR.

I noticed a large lymphnode in my neck in January, it is still there and now I have a second one swollen around It. It is right by under my ear, the size of a walnut very hard, doesn't hurt other then a few twinges that there is something in my neck.

I'm getting an ultrasound tomorrow. I am very worried it is cancer, though multiple myeloma doesn't really affect lymph nodes is my understanding.

How do others deal with the constant fear that their multiple myeloma is coming back? seriously this is one of the hardest things with multiple myeloma, every little bump or illness I fear I'm getting sick again.

I hope your tests today went well and that whatever it was that's causing the lumps is nothing serious. Please let us know what you found out in case we can be of help.

I know what you mean about the uncertainty that comes with having myeloma! I thought there was some good discussion about that issue in Kevin Jones's last article and in the comments that were made about it. Maybe you'll find the article and comments useful as well.

Got the results of my ultrasound,

good news, I have thyroid issue, not a myeloma relpase!

Bad news, I have a thyroid issue... lol

The ultra sound shows enlarged thyroid, and changes from "Thyroiditis". My dr. says it is from the stem cell transplant / chemo.

My last TSH test was 3.9 which I'm told was still "normal" range, but I do have some issues which are typical of low thyroid.

US also showed the large nodes, but they look "regular" and are still under 2cm's so my DR. is no worried given my history of multiple myeloma and multiple upper resp. infections.

Going to do a repeat us in two months, and monitor THyroid levels as I will eventually need to take pills, but at the moment I am making enough.
