How long until hair regrowth post transplant?

How long after your stem cell transplant was it until your hair started to grow back?

It has been about 2 months since I got out of the hospital and still no sign of hair growth. I have gotten used to it, but I am definitely ready for it to start growing back.

Hi,

It took about 12 weeks until my hair started to grow. After approximately another 6 weeks, I had a good crew cut, which was a lovely shape. AND even more good news, I had had a little grey hair at the front (I was 55 years old) before I lost it, and my hair grew back without any grey and curly. It is going a bit grey again now but who cares about that - not me. I am just delighted to be well.

Take heart, it will grow and it will look lovely for the spring!

My transplant took place at the end of October. I had fuzz for the longest time. It's just been the last 2 weeks that I've seen a lot of growth. Give it a few more weeks.

My hair grew back very curly and darker than before the transplant. It is nicer and thicker as well. I took a good 3-6 months to feel normal with my own hair vs. wigs.

My hair started to grow back between 4-6 months. It came back darker and curlier. I have never had curly hair except for a brief period called the 80s.

As soon as I had a little covering on my head, I went wigless and hatless. It was so liberating. I am at 1 1/2 years out from my stem cell transplant and my hair is very thick, a lot less curly, but still some wave, and growing like crazy.

My hair pre-transplant was blond and slow growing. After the transplant, all I could muster was some very fine, barely visible peach fuzz. Finally at nine months after transplant, I had about 1/4" of very sparse hair. You could still clearly see my scalp, but by then I was so sick of wearing scarves on my head that I just started going without.

Now 18 months out, it's finally growing in earnest. It came in gray at first, but now it's changed to brown. It's just as straight as ever and maybe a little bit thicker and a little faster growing than pre-transplant.

I have absolutely no complaints; I am so grateful to have any hair at all that I don't care what color or texture it is.

My transplant day was August 19, 2014. I had my head shaved on August 31 when the hair was coming out in gobs. The first week of November, I started noticing some growth. By the end of November, it was almost visible in photos. And now, it's thick, sticking up a bit, and people are complementing me on my haircut. Yeh, right! But hey, it's there!

Glad to hear your hair has started to grow back, Terri. Congratulations!

How are you feeling in general? Are you still feeling a lot of effects from the transplant?

Hi Terri,

I had my SCT on June 25, 2014. I just got my first hair trim last week! However, I think I had enough to stop wearing my wig by around the end of October - so about four months. As others have experienced, it came in very thick and very curly, nothing like my hair before transplant (well, the color is about the same, I guess) .

I lost a good deal of my hair once before, back in early 2011 when I had my stem cell harvest and got Cytoxan. It grew in about the same way, but I don't remember the curliness lasting this long. I am hoping that it does slowly revert back to normal because I still don't think I look like myself! But, I am grateful to have hair and to finally have enough to need a trim!
