Re: Grandmother newly diagnosed - looking for answers

Hi Christa's mom,

Thankyou for your response. It makes me feel a lot better knowing the dialysis shouldn't really get in the way of treatment.

Right now my grandma is bedbound (can't move a muscle in her body) and speaks in slurrs but hopefully that will change and chemo can happen.

I want to wish your husband the best of luck in his future with this disease and you're both in my thoughts. (And its nice to finally see someone else who spells Erik with a K too! ! :) )

I have another update - good and bad - I'll start with good. We managed to get my grandmother onto the hospital bedside chair, which is a step ahead from laying in bed all day. And her kidney is apparently slightly better so its a step in the right direction.

Bad news - My Aunt is pretty convinced that my grandmother was having a stroke today. My mom and I aren't convinced, but she seems like she is. Her symptoms were shaking of her movable hand (she can't move her other hand) and very slurred speech.

Now is that a usual side effect of multiple myeloma? Because this is the first time I've ever heard of a stroke passing right after myeloma diagnosis.

Other than that, my grandmother has been jealously watching people move out of hospital to go back home while new people come in. She desperately wants home. It's been nearly 2 weeks in hospital. How long can one stay in hospital??!!

Thanks.
