Grandchildren or Pets
Ok, I think I broke the first rule -- something other than myeloma. How about who has the most grandchildren. We have 2 and I'm sure others have more!! Also have 1 dog - Rat Terrier - rescued 3 years ago and quite the companion!! Rex and Kay

Re: Grandchildren or Pets
We have none yet, but I am a GREAT Aunt. We have an 11 1/2 year old yellow lab, Kip. He is our baby with both kids out of the house. One successfully through college and working in Miami and the second to graduate this May with a job in hand.

Re: Grandchildren or Pets
Thanks! I worked at a University for a number of years in a research think tank. We had many PhD candidate students that I became very close with. I was sort of the "Mom" over the area. Anyway, several of them and I still correspond regularly and a couple are in SF where I can visit. They are all marrying and having babies. I got the sweetest note from the one of the husbands in SF after their son was born. "Kaveh (Kah-vay) is waiting for his Auntie Lori to come hold and kiss him!" My list for baby quilts is growing!
I've always told people when they say you can't choose your family, "BS! I have adopted people into mine all my life!"

No children, but 2 beautiful lab/setter mix dogs. They have been my life saver over these past 2 years. Zac and Zoli are their names.

When I was in kidney failure and diagnosed with last stage multiple myeloma, I remember praying to please give me a little more time so my grandchildren would remember me. They were 10, 8, 8, 5, 4, and 2 yrs old. They are now 15, 13, 13, 10, 9 and 7. : ) Counting my blessings.......Shirley Ann

I hear you Mary!
Shirley Ann (my mother's name, but she went by Chris'an instead), that is probably one of the sweetest most wonderful things I have read today! How fabulous.

Ditto on the dogs and grandchildren!! And I think we would include family, children and spouses as the reasons for "keeping on - keeping on"!!

Re: Grandchildren or Pets
While we're talking about pets, did anyone see the article about pets making people sick - especially those with compromised immune systems? And especially if they were allowed on the bed (the pets)!!! Somehow I don't think our Otto would understand that after 3 years he could not longer be under the covers - I would probably have just as much trouble with Rex (remember, Rex, is the human)!!!! Personally, common sense says wash your hands and take care when playing with pets, but come on, they do so much for our well-being and healing process!!

Re: Grandchildren or Pets
Yes I read that article as well. I am not buying into it though. I tried very hard to get my Drs. to allow my dogs to come with me while undergoing my first transplant....to no avail. Then I see a posting on the Beacon (from one of the Drs.) that suggested that it would not be a problem. So who knows. I do think that there are as many oppinions about this as there are about treatments?
