Anyone developed gout or on allopurinol while on Revlimid?

by fetalsono on Fri Aug 15, 2014 12:34 am

I have had hyperuricemia most of my life and one gout attack 25 years ago. I have been on probenecid and my uric acid has been well controlled. Nothing was changed when I was on Velcade / Cytoxan / dex (CyBorD / VCD) for 4 months.

When I was switched to Revlimid, during the 3rd week I developed a gout attack. My only guess is that the cell death and release of purines caused my uric acid to fluctuate and cause the attack. It was pretty painful (big toe).

My doctor wants me to switch to allopurinol. My uric acid this week was 6.9 (pretty close to what he would want most people to achieve). This past week was my off week for Revlimid. Having nothing to do with the gout, but rather because of extreme fatigue, we are switching from 25 mg to 10 mg.

Gout attacks are very common in patients early in treatment course. I do use allopurinol as well.
