by LadyLib on Sat Dec 14, 2013 2:28 pm

My husband recently got hit with a case of gout following treatment and before prepping for SCT process. Anything help with symptoms?

My husband had a case right after he came home from SCT. Only thing that helped was medication.

Yes, nine months post transplant I got gout in the right toe, bad enough to prevent exercise walking. I took advil, and also cut down on red meat; upped the veggies, and it went away. Came back in a month, but went away with advil. I am on a more plant-based diet, but still eat lots of fish and poultry, and meat once a week or so, and its been gone for the last couple of months. There is diet advice on some of the websites around, for gout.

During my third round of VCD I developed foot pain which moved to the big toe joint and was very much like a gout attack which i have suffered from before on a few occasions. My whole foot was also very swollen I initially thought this was from the Velcade. Oncologist believed it to be gout which chemotherapy can trigger so he has prescribed Allopurinol 300mg daily. This drug reduces uric acid levels. So far so good no flare up this week.

Yes.

In between my doctors diagnosis and the official diagnosis from an oncologist I had a bout with gout. Left great toe and it lasted for about 3-4 days, same pain that I experienced when I had an attack in the military - they operated and drained joint. This time I took some of my stepfather's gout medicine. Knocked it out right away and has not revisited.
