Gamma globulin raised - does it mean I have myeloma?

by memikee on Fri Jul 31, 2015 2:49 pm

Just written something, and frikin deleted it by accident. So here is a shorter version!

Went to docs, as I was getting more and more tired and fatigued. FBC taken on number of occasions. All came back ok apart from inflammatory markers were up. Got a letter the other day saying my gamma globulins were high and I was to have an SPEP.

Firstly, can they pick up raised gamma globulins on a normal full blood count.

Second, from what I can gather, if your gamma are raised, chances are it's not a normal thing to have, and I could have multiple myeloma?

Just thought I'd throw it out there,

Thanks.

Memikee,

There are many things that can raise one's globulin levels, including inflammation, etc. If your globulin levels are raised, there are a couple of simple, inexpensive tests such as an immunofixation (IFE) test and the SPEP that can start to rule out a monoclonal gammopathy such as mulitple myeloma. It is likely that your doc would also order an IFE to accompany the SPEP test that you are already scheduled to get.

You say you are tired and fatigued. Is your hemoglobin level also low?
