Hello
I was wondering how long after the last cycle of meds can you stay off drugs until transplantation ? My sister ended her last 3 rd cycle about three week ago and now is in process of stem cell collection and we have to meet w the doctor in 2 weeks to decide we need to do transplant right away or keep it for later. However she has been off drugs since 3 weeks ago and she will not be on any drugs for next 2 weeks at least until we meet the doctor. IS this fine?
How long does it take for the plasma cell numbers to start rising in most cases, I understand its different in diff people ?
Thank you
Nadia

Re: from last cycle to transplant
I was off my drugs for 5-6 weeks prior to the actual transplant procedure. It was about 3 weeks before the Cytoxan infusion and harvesting. My numbers went up a little in that period of time, but not a huge rise. It was nice to get a break from the Rev and Dex.
Good luck with your decision on the timing of when to do a transplant, or not.

Sounds similar to me. I've been off chemo since mid-July, and will be getting my cells collected this coming Thursday... and they won't be re-introduced till Sept 18th.
I guess the timeline isn't all that critical, eh?
