I hope your taste buds are getting back to normal now!
I went through the same thing. It does come back. I think for me it was 2-3 months. I just had to experiment and see what I could tolerate. For water, for some reason seltzer water was OK, but plain water did taste weird. I also developed a sudden craving for regular Coke, which I hadn't drunk in decades. In general, sweet things seemed to taste better than non-sweet, although I also found that plain chocolate tasted odd. But things like pudding and applesauce were OK. I also found I could eat some fried things like frozen egg rolls and shrimp.
Not the healthiest choices, but since I wasn't eating very much, I figured whatever I could get down would be better than nothing.
Hang in there!

Re: Food tastes awful after stem cell transplant
It was about 5 months for me before I started enjoying all the foods I used to enjoy. I had lost 40 pounds and was hoping to keep some of it off; unfortunately, it found me after my taste buds and appetite returned. In the meantime, I had to eat foods that had some "liquid" with them – cereal with milk, soup, spaghetti with sauce, etc. Things like bread stuck to my teeth and mouth.
You'll get there, and it's so much fun to taste again!

Re: Food tastes awful after stem cell transplant
Thanks again for the replies. I am on Day 74 and I am happy to say that most food tastes normal now. I have to stay away from anything acidic, including tomatoes. No pizza for me yet. I can't imagine how some of you went 6 months or more. I would be crazy. I love to cook and I love to eat. I keep telling myself that I'll look back on all of this someday and it won't seem so bad.
