Hello everyone,
I wanted to check in with everyone and let you know the latest of my husband's diagnosis, since a lot of you have been extremely helpful in my search for answers and understanding.
My husband and I went to our oncologist yesterday for the latest blood results, which would determine treatment or smoldering. Our doctor consulted with myeloma specialist who was his professor in med school and went over all the tests with him. Our oncologist did not want to make the decision of smoldering without another opinion.
The myeloma specialist agreed on smoldering, as our oncologist said he has none of the CRAB symptoms, so there is not need to start treatment at this time. He explained that the side effects of the treatments would be worse, especially since my husband is not experiencing any symptoms now.
We are very aware that this could go into active myeloma at any time, but we are so thankful now for this diagnosis. Wwe go back to the doctor in six weeks and the doctor explained that, as long as his numbers are where they are now, we will continue to do this and then eventually possibly go to three months, with our understanding that if anything feels different healthwise, we go in ASAP.
I do not know how many people here are spiritual but for me it is a huge part of my life and I thank Him for all the blessings everyday that I have received.

Re: Finally ... smoldering
Mildred, I am so so happy for you and your husband. Hopefully he stays smoldering for a very, very, very long time!

Re: Finally ... smoldering
Mildred,
Great news on the smoldering diagnosis and not having to start treatment. This should give you lots of breathing room to learn more about myeloma and plan and prepare what you want to do should it go active in the future. Hopefully that day never comes for your husband.
Best wishes,
Eric

Melanie and Eric
Thank you both for your encouragement.
Melanie - From your lips to God's ears for a long smoldering!
Eric - The way I look at this is that possibly and hopefully a cure will be found. Or treatments with less side effects will be down the pipe before my husband's smoldering ends.

Re: Finally ... smoldering
Hi Mildred. Thanks for updating everyone on your husband's status. I want to echo Melanie in hoping that your husband stays smoldering for a very long time. Happy Thanksgiving!
