Do you have fibromyalgia and multiple myeloma?
Has anyone been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and multiple myeloma? My mom was told she had fibromyalgia for 3+ years before they finally did bloodwork or urine work. It makes me so angry ...
Re: Do you have fibromyalgia and multiple myeloma?
I do not have multiple myeloma, I have MGUS (monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance). I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at least 20 years ago. I was tested for a paraprotein one year ago.
In the past several years, I've developed a lot more symptoms that did not seem consistent with fibromyalgia, or which seemed different than what I had experienced in the past, so I saw my doctor frequently to determine the cause.
Last year when I developed peripheral neuropathy and significant pain, significant enough to make it difficult to walk, he referred me to a neurologist, who found the paraprotein.
I cannot speak for other doctors though. I believe now that, if you have neuropathy, testing is frequently done to see if an M-spike exists. I do not know if rheumatologists test for it when determining if there is a paraprotein though. I have seen rheumatologists many times, but there was never a mention of a monoclonal gammopathy.
Do you mean your mother never had any testing done, whatsoever? I know fibromyalgia is diagnosed symptomatically, but every rheumatologist or internist I've seen has run blood tests to rule out any other cause. What type of physician did she see?
