New member here. My dad was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last November. I had been being followed by a hematologist for a low white blood cell count. Hematologist tested me for myeloma when I told him about my father.
Initially, both my kappa and lambda free light chains came back elevated, but with a normal ratio. Now, just my kappa free light chain is elevated at 29.4, and lambda is now normal, with a normal ratio.
Initially, IgM was elevated but is now normal. IgG at 1260, which is still normal but high normal. No M-spike or any other abnormalities. SPEP and UPEP normal, etc. I know that all I can do is watch and wait at this point.
When I got my first set of test results back, I decided it was best if I seek out a myeloma specialist. I'm fortunate enough to live only 100 miles from Los Angeles, so I chose a specialist there, who I've seen about 4 times now. I feel like I'm in really good hands with him, and he doesn't seem to think I have anything to worry about at this point. Just had more labs done on Monday and if they come back normal I'll see him again in 3 months.
This forum has been a wealth of information for me, so thank you. My heart definitely goes out to all of you fighting this disease.

Re: Father has multiple myeloma, I'm watching & waiting
Welcome to the forum, AMG. I'm sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis. I hope he has responded well to treatment. I also hope that you're able to "watch and wait" for a very long time.
