Facial swelling

My Andrea is have a side effect from what we guess is the myeloma. Has anyone had facial swelling?

If dex (steroid) is part of the treatment, it can cause facial puffiness after a while.

Thank you so much for the information. Additionally, she was given a steroid to help bring down a high volume calcium that was in her blood due to myeloma. The doctor was trying to reduce the calcium level, which was very high along with the myeloma being very active.

For the past eleven months, I took a low dose of dexamethasone once a week (40 mg), a steroid, in addition to Revlimid. The day following the dexamethasone ingestion, I usually got a red flush on my face and my face looked puffy. I took the dex at 9:00 p.m. every Thursday and by six p.m. every Friday, the flush appeared on schedule.

I timed the dex ingestion so I would sleep with it through Saturday night, having used plenty of cocoa butter on my face on Friday and by the next morning the flush typically was gone. I am not sure whether the cocoa butter caused the disappearance; it could also be the considerable massaging with the cocoa butter and vitamin E that yielded the benefit, or maybe the red flush just ran its course.

I also take my 20 mg of Dex on Thursday evening. I have facial flushing on Saturday and it is gone by Sunday. I don't do anything for it. I just enjoy not having to use any make-up on Saturday because I have such a healthy looking color to other people.
