My husband developed a lump on his skull, and we just got the biopsy back. It's a kappa light chain plasmacytoma.
Short history. My husband was diagnosed with IgG multiple myeloma in April 2014. He had five courses of cyclophosphamide, Velcade, and dexamethasone (CyBorD). Lung damage from the Cytoxan prevented him from going to transplant. He's been off all medication since August 2014. He was at trace levels of M-protein when he stopped treatment, and has been at 0 since January 2015. No maintenance therapy. 8 grams a day of curcumin with bioperine.
His current serum free light chain (sFLC) ratio is 2.0, with kappa at 22.2 and lambda at 11.1.
All his other lab work is excellent. No abnormal proteins in lungs or urine. He's not anemic, his calcium is good, and his kidney and creatinine are stable.
But the lung damage has left him with a cough.
So what I'm worried about is that he might have extramedullary plasmacytomas in his respiratory system. Nothing was mentioned on the skeletal survey – the only thing new they mentioned was the one on the skull.
Would extramedullary plasmacytomas in the lungs or respiratory system show on his skeletal (x-ray) survey?

Re: Is an extramedullary plasmacytoma visible on an x-ray?
Lisa,
As I understand it, extramedullary plasmacytomas may not necessarily be picked up on an xray, if at all. You really want to get a PET/CT if there is a suspicion of a pulmonary extramedullary plasmacytoma.

Just came from the hematologist / oncologist. He's scheduling a PET/CT, and we'll figure out treatment options when we see what that shows.
