My sisters relapsed turned into extramedullary multiple myeloma. A recent biopsy showed some plasmablastic activity. It's very difficult to find information and prognosis. Does anyone know?
I know this is a very aggressive form of multiple myeloma and her current doctor states it all depends on response and time between relapses. He said she may have more a less a year to live.
I feel he's very discouraging and almost encouraging her to give up since treatments are so harsh. Is he right?

Re: Extramedullary myeloma with plasmablastic activity
Grizabella,
Extramedullary disease (EMD) is indeed a more difficult form of multiple myeloma to treat. But there is hope, and I would personally be seeking out another specialist if he/she was saying to just throw in the towel. The current treatments are pretty much the same as those used for multiple myeloma and simply aren't that "harsh".

Note that depending on the specific nature of your sister's EMD, radiation can also be considered for treatment of EMD.
