Exhaustion after stem cell collection

by shaznics on Wed Nov 13, 2013 9:11 pm

Hi All

My husband had his stem cell collection on Monday. He had a very high count and they were able to collect enough for 4 transplants I believe.

But he is now absolutely exhausted and unable to do anything so keen to hear other people's experiences and whether this is normal?

All the best!

Probably some anemia that should pass.

Hi Sharon. I don't remember being more tired after the harvest. I agree with Wayne that it is probably anemia or a drop in some of his minerals. Were they monitoring him during the procedure for changes in minerals? I remember getting an infusion of something during the procedure and having them monitor my levels of various minerals afterward.

Thank you for your feedback!

As far as we know they only monitored his calcium.

Definitely going to now give the doctor a call. We just thought it must be normal but obviously not.

Thanks again.
