Here is some important news for multiple myeloma patients in Europe.
It was just announced this morning that the European Commission (EC) has broadened Revlimid's approval in Europe. The drug now is officially approved for use in adult, previously untreated multiple myeloma patients who are transplant-ineligible.
Prior to the EC's decision, Revlimid had been approved in Europe only for use in myeloma patients who have had at least one previous therapy. This was also Revlimid's officially approved use elsewhere in the world until earlier this week, when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration also broadened Revlimid's approval to include both newly diagnosed patients and those who have had prior therapy (see related Beacon news).
