Re: Engraftment syndrome

I developed a rash that gradually spread all over my body about 4 weeks after my ASCT. My oncologist wasn't sure of the cause, but suggested that it might be host vs myeloma reaction. He took me off all of my medications and had me stop using any soaps of any kind, even with my laundry, to make sure that I wasn't reacting to any of those things. A dermatologist prescribed a steroid ointment that I used for several weeks and I took lots of Benadryl for the itching. Gradually it cleared up over several weeks, but I developed it several times over the next few months. I never had a fever, but my nausea lasted about 4 months post transplant.

No one was ever really sure what it was, but it did gradually resolve completely with no more incidents about 8 months after transplant.
