Eliquis (apixaban) and dexamethasone

by GoDucks on Thu Jun 01, 2017 5:42 pm

I have a history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT and pulmonary embolism (PE) and I'm currently on Eliquis (apixaban). I'm also in the midst of induction therapy with cyclophosphamide, Velcade, and dexamethasone (CyBorD).

I have read that dexamethasone and Eliquis are contraindicated. Is this true? Is it really true that it's rare for the two to be prescribed at the same time?

So far, I've had no problems, but I wonder if the interaction is interfering with treatment.

Here's the information I found about the contraindication:

Contraindicated
Never use combination.

apixaban oral and dexamethasone oral
apixaban oral will decrease the level or effect of dexamethasone oral by affecting hepatic/intestinal enzyme CYP3A4 metabolism. Reduces anticoagulant effect by decreasing apixaban systemic exposure
