Is it safe to take 1-2 tsp culinary turmeric while on statins (blood thinners) or would it have any adverse side effects? I'd love to hear from anyone taking this or anyone who has had any bad experiences from this!
Thanks!

Re: Effects of taking turmeric while on statins
I've taken the statin Lipitor (40mg)/day and up to 8g/day of curcumin extract for months at a time with no ill effects whatsoever. I switched brands of curcumin and I've been on 1.8g curcumin/day for and Lipitor for many months as well...again with no ill effects.
I hope you aren't taking culinary tumeric for the treatment of multiple myeloma. The amt of curcumin (the active ingredient in tumeric that is being researched for cancer treatment) in culinary tumeric is negligible and will have no impact on your multiple myeloma. But, it might taste great in a good curry

Thank you Multibilly for your timely response! I actually posted this question on behalf of a friend who is on statins for high cholesterol! I will now pass this good news to him.

Yes, I have been recently diagnosed with "myelomatosis" (myeloma?), which was first discovered in 2004 yet the hospital chose to ignore until now! I started taking a table spoon of turmeric, but now take a 10g turmeric tablet/day which supposedly contains 500mg curcumin/ 10g tablet!.I don't know how effective this is, but feel more energetic since taking these. I've also ordered proper 1g (1000mg) "curcumin" extract tablets.
What is so alarming and confusing is that all 3 hematologists I've had in the last 4 months give different explanations! One says that "they are not sure", the second " yes, I have myeloma" & the third hematologist saying "yes, but we cannot start any treatment yet"!
All my inquiries as to taking "curcumin" were brushed aside with the standard reply "not medically tested or proven" and a smile!
I feel so so helpless as they don't give any information readily, or answer even my specific questions to my satisfaction
Yes, you're absolutely right about using it in curries! It does pep up most curry dishes, but not too much, though, as it leaves a rather bitter taste!
