I am a radio announcer in New Orleans and my hobby is playing tennis. Almost 3 years ago, I was playing the best tennis of my life and I had a lower backache. One month later I could not walk. Of course, six different doctors said it was from being 67 years old and putting too much stress on my joints. Finally, they gave me some kind of test and found I had 4 fractures of my spine and 25 lytic lesions and my spine had compressed.
Now, here is where it gets interesting, I heard of a doctor who had multiple myeloma and he said don't let them talk you into a bone marrow transplant. I didn't do one and just started on Revlimid, dex, and a once per month infusion with Zometa. I have been in remission for almost two and a half years, and I will be 70 in March of 2017.
I still play tennis (not as well) and work full-time. I have neuropathy and have trouble walking over a mile and I don't have the energy I had, and they still try and talk me into getting a bone marrow transplant, but I don't see evidence that it works any better than taking pills and there are experts that agree with me on this.
It is a hard thing to have but I have learned to deal with it. But it does wear me down, Most people don't know I have multiple myeloma.

Re: Eddie - diagnosed at age 67 almost 3 years ago
Hi Eddie,
Thanks for your post and sorry that you have to be on this site.
What did you do to fix the fractures? Any surgery or procedures?
Thanks!
