Dragon in a cage

by Defcon Dragon on Tue May 29, 2018 7:46 pm

Hey Kids,

I owe someone on this forum a thanks for the saying, "If a dragon walks into the room, why pay attention to anything else?" When I was diagnosed with smoldering multiple myeloma 9 months ago, it helped to envision my disease as a dragon in a cage. Depending on the results of tests, the cage is sometimes locked, sometimes ajar (will the dragon notice and come out?!) and just once it was wide open and I was getting ready to have to slay the thing. I hope to keep the dragon in its cage as long as possible.

I have learned so much reading this forum that it's time to stop lurking in the wings and participate.

Let's do this!

Hi DD,

I'm similar in age and diagnosis, and while I like the dramatic caged dragon thing :D, I tend to see it as just one of the many possible ways to die, i.e., I don't dwell on it too much. When diagnosed over two years ago, I assumed it was the only thing that would kill me. Like Superman, multiple myeloma was my Kryptonite.

But I'm still getting older, my healthy body ages towards many other fatal possibilities.

Smoldering myeloma is more of a pussycat really, shades of Schrodinger's cat. :)

Whatever shape mine eventually takes, I'll try to tame it. But if I don't succeed, I'll accept that. It doesn't cage me, or I it. Actually, it's more like a Jack in the Box, you never know when he'll pounce. :)

Hope you and your dragon smoulder 4ever. :)
