Does Zometa work?

by RayGunter on Sat Jan 25, 2014 6:19 pm

For those of you that have bone lesions all over and are stable/in remission for myeloma, do you find that taking Zometa is doing anything?

I've been in remission for a year and a half and been on Zometa for most of that time. But in my MRIs, I haven't shown any improvement - ie the holes are all still there and the same size. They are stable, but no improvement.

So I'm wondering if others have actually seen improvement in their bone lesions and how long it took.

Thanks,
Ray

Ray-
I don't know that there's a definitive answer to your question. I've been getting Zometa infusions for almost 5 years. It's hard to say from the written results of my x-rays whether there has been improvement in any of my lesions. This is because each report is written by a different doctor each year and who knows if they really refer to previous scans. Sometimes a healed rib fracture is mentioned and other times not. The best I can say is that the lesions are stable and I don't think new ones have appeared.

The 2 times in the last 5 years that I had breaks from Zometa, for transplant and last year for knee surgery, I ended up with bone problems. So, I think that the Zometa is helping me.
