Do I really need to start treatment right away?

by Smile001001 on Sat Jun 16, 2018 7:05 am

I haven’t had a lot of help from my doctor unfortunately and I was just wondering if anyone could help me understand if it's really necessary for me to start treatment right away.

My biopsy says a loss of 1p32 region and gain of 1q21 and amplification of CKS1B gene. It says the patients with CKS1B gene have a shorter progression free survival post-autologous stem cell transplant. It says chromosome analysis shows a female karyotype. No clonal chromosome abnormality was identified in the cells examined for this study.

My blood cells are all normal white and red on blood work. My calcium is normal. My protein is 9.3. My albumin is 3.3. My beta 2 microglobulin test was 2.7 in May.

My doctor claims she thinks that there is a lesion in my skull but no PET scan was done.

They want to put me on treatment immediately and I wanted to wait a couple weeks to see a specialist and get a tooth fixed. So I’m not sure what to do.

Any thoughts are so much appreciated.

If it were me, I would wait until seeing the specialist before initiating any treatment. I would also call the specialist's office and explain the situation and see if they could get you in earlier. But these are just my personal opinions.

They want me to start treatment this Monday but the specialist appointment is on Tuesday. I would like to have the tests run on Tuesday without any type of treatment to see how they come out. They told me that I would see a specialist on Tuesday. I’m not sure why they feel they have to start them a day before then! I also have to get a tooth fixed and I don’t think you can be on medication when you do that. My appointment for the tooth is also on Tuesday. Also, I’m wondering if the specialist would have a different type of treatment plan and that’s another reason I’m hesitant to start when I’m going to be seeing him so soon. Thank you so much for your response!

This is also my personal opinion, but always get a second opinion from a specialist for something this important. And, by the way, proper nutrition is important, so having that tooth fixed should be part of the overall treatment plan.
