Is dizziness a symptom of multiple myeloma?

by acventura on Sun Nov 19, 2017 8:15 am

Hi.

My mother has urine and blood positive M protein 1.65 with IgA spiking at 1800. Whatever that means. Plus, skeletal x-ray shows skull lesions. What kind? Unknown.

She had 2 strokes this year. Primary care doctor theorizes the strokes were caused by multiple myeloma; cancer thickens blood, apparently; thus, the multiple myeloma workup, which was also precipitated by concern over possible lesions showing on CT scan of upper spine, neck, and brain taken from stroke.

All Mom wants to overcome is the dizziness she is experiencing. There’s a catch 22 here. She was dizzy before starting medications. Now, with the post-stroke medications, she is debilitatingly dizzy. She has tried managing and altering the medications with no success.

I have not heard that dizziness can be a symptom of multiple myeloma. It seems to be a side effect of most of the medications and treatments for multiple myeloma, though. :(

I was going to suggest an overall medication review, but I see that you've already done that.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. I can't imagine how she must struggle with that.

Maybe have her ears checked? Does she wear hearing aids? One of the silicone tips came off mine and went inside my ear, causing build-up. We didn't know the issue for several weeks. Finally I was sent back to the ENT specialist to have the darn thing removed.
