Did you choose NOT to have SCT?

by LadyLib on Mon Sep 02, 2013 10:04 pm

My husband is a candidate for SCT. I have heard conflicting stories or recommendations about whether the SCT is really a viable solution to prolong the remission of multiple myeloma. Are you someone that opted not to have SCT? If so, what is your story? Are you on maintenance drugs, what are you levels like, any slipping in/out of remission? Just looking to hear other sides.

There are several of us who post regularly that did not go the SCT route and have been in remission for a while. I personlly was diagnosed with Stage II light chain multiple myeloma. I did not get an SCT and have been in remission for over 4 years. I am on a maintenance dosage of Velcade (once every 2 weeks) and 8 mg of dex once every two weeks. I also get Aredia infusions once every 3 months. I have had issued with infections and thus am also on IVIG which I get infussions of once a month. I work full time and am an avid cyclist as you can read from my posts.

Here is discussion that goes into the pros and cons of SCT as an initial line of treatment. You may find this interesting.
